Upper Langa: churches and castles

da Saliceto a Prunetto

Tappe dell'itinerario e punti di interesse

The route links three villages that are home to important secular and religious sites. Start from Saliceto, where you can see the castle and the Renaissance church of San Lorenzo, before visiting the little church of San Martino di Lignera just outside the old town. From here, the road follows the valley floor to Monesiglio, also dominated by the imposing bulk of its castle. Here, next to the Bormida river, lies the beautiful Romanesque church dedicated to the Madonna dell’Acqua Dolce, the Madonna of Fresh Water, which has interesting frescoes. Finally, drive up to the centre of Prunetto to find, at the top of the hill, the complex formed by the castle and the Madonna del Carmine sanctuary, offering one of the best viewpoints overlooking the Upper Langa.
